ENT Specialist Op. Dr. K. Ali Rahimi warned that using longer than the specified time may invite some problems. Rahimi, who stated that addiction developed in the use of nasal spray more, recommended that it be used under the supervision of an expert. Kiss. Dr. K. Ali Rahimi said that cortisone-free sprays should be used for a maximum of 5 days unless the doctor recommends otherwise.

Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Hospital Ear Nose and Throat Specialist Op. Dr. K. Ali Rahimi commented on the use of nasal spray. ENT Specialist Op. Dr. K. Ali Rahimi stated that nasal spray should be used with the advice of a doctor and said, “The use of nasal spray is normally very useful and we write one in almost every prescription we deem possible. However, which nasal spray the patient will use is determined by the situation recommended and prescribed by the doctor.

The adenoid should be checked first in the child.

Stating that more care should be taken in the use of nasal spray in children, ENT Specialist Op. Dr. K. Ali Rahimi said, “It is necessary to pay more attention to this issue in children. Yes, we use nasal spray in otitis media, acute nasopharyngitis, sinusitis, but nasal sprays are of no use to the adenoids. Thus, if your child has nasal congestion, first of all, it should be examined in terms of adenoids. While cortisone-free sprays can be used for all ages, cortisone sprays are suitable for use over 2 years old.

Nasal spray should be used for a maximum of 5 days.

Emphasizing that the nasal spray should be used in the number of days and doses recommended by the doctor, Op. Dr. K. Ali Rahimi said, “Nasal sprays are divided into those with cortisone and those without cortisone. Cortisone-free ones should be used for a maximum of 5 days, unless your doctor has a different recommendation. Those with cortisone can be used for a long time upon the doctor's recommendation.

 Spray addiction may develop

Noting that some problems may occur if the nasal spray is used longer than specified, Op. Dr. K. Ali Rahimi said, “When the nasal spray is used more, the nasal concha becomes larger and instead of opening your nose, it causes more congestion and thus an addiction develops. The patient needs to use it constantly to shrink the nasal concha, but this makes the concha more enlarged each time. Thus, spray addiction develops. In order to prevent this spray addiction, it is necessary to go to the doctor. Because nasal sprays can cause high blood pressure, diabetes and many diseases. The doctor needs to determine what the real problem is and apply treatment on that issue. Otherwise, your nose will not be opened by using a spray," he warned.

ENT Specialist Op. Dr. K. Ali Rahimi stated that when the nasal spray is sprayed into the nose, it can pass from the back of the nose to the throat, and this does not have any side effects.

Cortisone sprays have no side effects

Noting that cortisone sprays do not have any side effects, ENT Specialist Op. Dr. K. Ali Rahimi concluded his words as follows:

“Because it contains a very low dose of cortisone, it sticks to the nasal concha and mixes with air through breathing and is not taken into the body. Since it is not taken into the body, no side effects are observed. Those with cortisone are never addictive and relieve allergies. It prevents the formation of polyps by solving the edema problem. However, it does not have a great effect on formed polyps and the treatment of this condition is surgery.
