The third series of universal nuclear powered icebreaker Yakutia built by News Center-Baltic Shipyard A.Ş. A ceremony was held in St. Petersburg.
Under the contract, the third serial universal nuclear icebreaker Yakutia is scheduled to be delivered in December 2024. Icebreakers have successfully confirmed all their unique technical features during their operations. The RITM-200 reactor plant with integrated steam generator assembly proved its efficiency. In 2021-2022, nuclear icebreakers confirmed their versatility with their activities in shallow water, demonstrating their readiness to work in the open seas and at the mouths of polar rivers. By the end of the year, the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom will sign a contract for the construction of the fifth and sixth nuclear-powered icebreakers of project 22220. The construction of the third and fourth series of universal nuclear icebreakers Yakutia and Chukotka continues at the shipbuilding company. Under the contract, the final delivery date of the fourth serial universal nuclear icebreaker Chukotka will be December 2026. The icebreakers of project 22220 will contribute to unlocking the shipping potential of the Northern Sea Route, including accompanying other vessels throughout the year in the eastern part of the Northern Sea Route.
